Happy Birthday Church!

This Sunday, our congregation will celebrate our twenty-fifth anniversary as a congregation!  On October 16, 1988, members of our congregation gathered for special worship service.  This service officially organized our congregation into existence and as they say, "the rest is history."

Indeed the rest is history.  We have come along way.  From humble beginnings at the Maple Lake School.  Transforming a hay field into a beautiful building for ministries like worship, education, and fellowship to take place.  We have sailed together on treacherous seas.  We have celebrated the births and baptisms of many.  We have grieved the loss of dear family and friends who taught us the life of faith.

The church continues on.  Holy Cross Lutheran Church has "kept the main thing the main thing" and it has served us well.  On Sunday, October 13, we will gather again for special worship services.  We will sing familiar hymns (that were also sung at our service of organization).  We will say prayers of thanksgiving for years past and request his presence with us for years to come.

This week we have gathered to reflect on all the gifts that God has blessed us with and are taking inventories of those gifts.  We will have our annual stewardship processional offering to lay these gifts before God and invite him to move in us and send his Spirit like a breath of fresh air to enliven these gifts in our midst for the next twenty-five years.

In September, I invited this congregation to join me as we explore what it means to be "a God-fashioned Church for the sake of living God-fashioned lives."  I hope that you will join us on Sunday (October 13) and/or Wednesday (October 16) to celebrate all the ways that God has been fashioning us to be His Church, His House, and His People for the sake of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the next twenty-five years.

Come on out for this exciting day!  I hear there will be birthday cake and pie!
