Dear Friends in Christ -

On Sunday, we heard how Philip spent time listening to his travel companion before he began to speak. I wish we did more of that in the world. Many of you know that social media has pros and cons. It is wonderful to connect with family and friends across the miles; at the same time, some of our most hurtful words are shared behind the "smoke screen".
As Christians, I would encourage you to both think and listen before you speak, especially on social media. We need not add to the chaos and constant noise with which the world bustles. Instead, let us be quiet, silent, and then speak the truth in love (as Saint Paul admonishes in Ephesians 4). We should share the truth and love of Christ in all we say and do; you're still a Christian when you leave the church. You're still a Christian when you post on social media. You're still a Christian because of Christ's life-changing word he has given to you: "I love you and you are mine!" (Isaiah 43:1-7)
