Dear Friends in Christ-

John 6 is the Gospel writer's commentary on the miracle of the 5000 and in this chapter, Jesus teaches us about the importance of Holy Communion. It is an incredibly full chapter, theologically dense, and sort of gross. Jesus said, "Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink of his blood, you have no life. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day."

Many of Jesus' disciples quit following him after these things. But Peter couldn't imagine the thought of living without Jesus. Peter had placed his trust, his future, and his whole life (both present and eternal) in the hands of Jesus and couldn't stand the thought of life without his words, his flesh and blood. We also pray that the Holy Spirit would give us this same longing for the words of eternal life and this heavenly food.
