Dear Friends in Christ-

What a busy and full Sunday we celebrated at Holy Cross yesterday!
  • We gave thanks to God for the gift of mothers. Our choir and Sunday School children serenaded us with lovely pieces to celebrate the day.
  • We give thanks to God for the new life that Isabella Rina Wagner now shares with us in the covenant of her baptism. She has been joined to the death and resurrection of Christ in God's decision for her.
  • We also prayed for so many who grieve the loss of loved ones who have died this past week. We continue to hold Pastor King and his family in our prayers since the death of his father. We pray for the family of Kristi Loftis (former member and dear friend to so many in this congregation) who died from cancer last week; her funeral was held this morning. We also pray for the Jacob's family after the death of Chris' father, Larry, on Saturday.
It has been said that the entire Christian life is blanketed by the metaphor of death and life. It could not be more true. Nor was it felt so deeply than yesterday during our entire celebration of God's many gifts and blessings. "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away" wrote Job. And yet, when all is said in done, we rest our hope not in what we can accomplish or even our perfection. Instead, we trust wholly in Jesus who said, "You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to bear fruit that will abide."
