Dear Friends in Christ -

Yesterday, our gospel reading was about the healing of Simon's mother-in-law. If you were in worship, you may have noticed that I re-translated some of the words. The ESV says: "And Jesus came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her, and she began to serve them" (Mark 1:31). A better translation is that Jesus "raised her up...and she began to minister to them."

What Jesus does for the woman is the same thing God does for Jesus on Easter morning. In what ways are you sick in bed with a fever (of all sorts of ailment, disease, spiritual thirst, fatigue, etc.)? And how have you let Jesus come and raise you to new life, that you might participate in the ministry of the kingdom of God? I alluded to this in my sermon yesterday: we need to be keenly aware of our own need for the grace of God, that we might invite others to know this same healing, love, and joy we have received.

May the Lord raise you up, and may you be strengthened for service in the kingdom - wherever it is that you live, work, learn, and play!
