Dear Friends in Christ-

This past weekend we had a wonderful retreat at Holy Cross on the Gospel of Mark. It was wonderful to be among so many from our congregation who were gathered around the Word of God to learn, hear, and grow in our life of faith and in our relationship with Jesus and one another.
It seems rather odd in our 21st century mindset to think that a book (as ancient as the Bible) can be so life-giving, so transformative. And indeed, it may not just be the book that does these things, but it is the Story of God and his Messiah that captivates us. It is the Spirit of God who opens our hearts and minds to the power of the message.
This is why I love being a Lutheran! We are a people who are committed to the Word of God - our lives have been captured and altered by this Word! When we hear the call of Jesus, we immediately leave behind whatever would get in the way and follow after Jesus - covered in the dust of our Rabbi!
