Dear Friends in Christ -

Meg, Oliver, and I went to South Dakota this weekend. We made the trip to be with my grandparents, my mom's three siblings and spouses, 8 other grandchildren and spouses, and 18 great-grandchildren to celebrate the 80th birthday of my grandfather. These are important moments that we simply could not miss.

I recognize, too, that many of you are busy tending to your families, important relationships, and other demands for your time, gifts, and resources. The work we do in every day life is so incredible valuable for the sake of the Kingdom. Please understand these two things: 1) The places where you live, work, learn, and play and the relationships that you tend there were given to you by God with intentionality. These are the greatest acts of love and service by which God is glorified. 2) At the same time, we need to hear God's Word, receive the Sacrament, and be in community with one another to sustain us on the journey of life. You cannot put one of these before the other; it is the tension by which we live and thrive.

Blessings on the Journey of Life -
